Artist Statement
To the artist, home is a living stratum where emotions, memories, and ties to objects settle in dense layers of dust. Dusting moves beyond cleaning; it becomes an intimate act of meeting former selves within what remains. In the question, “What to hold, and what to let go?” home reveals itself as the distilled essence of self.
Description
<Unmoved, Alive> is a video work that observes the paradox of dust, accumulating in proportion to time and attention. Dust may record neglect and disinterest, yet it quietly bears witness to the enduring presence of objects and the time they have endured. Dust that flickers across surfaces traces the line between interest(관심) and disinterest(무관심), while objects that usually settle beneath beds and sofas reveal traces of prolonged presence and lasting value. From this lingering dust, the artist uncovers hints of persistence and the essence of being.
<Among Indifferent Things> is an interactive web and projection work that invites viewers to sweep away dust and retrieve thoughts buried within its multiple temporal layers. The artist asks what forgotten objects or memories the viewers carry, and offers an experience of searching for those fragments as if sifting through a mound of dust or sand. As we leave a place we have inhabited for a long time, the things that only held a fleeting glance are brushed off like dust, while the few precious beings that will accompany the trajectory of our lives are carefully chosen and kept. Between emptying out and holding on, the artist prepares to turn the page to the next chapter of life.
