Artist Statement

"Home" is not only a fixed physical location, but a continuous process of redefining the self and seeking serenity. Since the loss of a personal sanctuary in 2021, the focus has shifted from simply occupying a space to actively visualizing a journey of healing by giving form to internal emotions and personal tastes. This process of reconstruction manifests through the intersection of digital imagery and analog stitching. Layering fabric onto smooth surfaces serves as a ritual of recovery, weaving together scattered memories to anchor the self within the space. Through the trilogy of self-discovery and mirrored eggshell silhouette, these constructed environments transcend their physical boundaries to become self-portraits that reflect the essence of being.

Description

The trilogy <Becoming> visualizes a journey from the fragmentation of the self to the discovery of a resilient inner sanctuary. The figure of a caterpillar drifting in ‘Loose Fragments’ undergoes a healing process in ‘Layered Moments’ by shedding its skin to emerge as a butterfly. This journey culminates in ‘Dense Sanctuary’ where the butterfly and the self become one in a complete state of being free from the external gaze. The repetitive stitching and layering throughout the series transcend mere formal decoration as they represent a performative record of weaving fragmented memories to reconstruct home as a self-portrait.

<Shell> begins with the act of facing one’s reflection in the mirror. The eggshell silhouette serves as a primordial sanctuary, simultaneously projecting the inner self and protecting it from the outside world. Within this restored essence, we find the motivation to embrace a wider horizon.
